THE SEDONA CONFERENCE® "VOICES FROM THE DESERT" WEBINAR SERIES TACKLES THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN LITIGATION DOCUMENT REVIEW

PHOENIX, AZ (October 15, 2011) This month, The Sedona Conference® , the nation’s premier nonpartisan law-and-policy educational institution, will sponsor a 90-minute webinar on one of the hottest issues in civil discovery, the appropriate role for information technology in the classic and essential legal task of reviewing documents for relevance and privilege.

The webinar, to be held Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, will feature Hon. Thomas J. Shields, United States Magistrate Judge from the Southern District of Iowa; Daniel K. Gelb of Gelb & Gelb LLP in Boston, MA; Maura R. Grossman of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York, NY; and Thomas J. Svoboda of Evidence Exchange in New York, NY.

While acknowledging that 19th century manual document review methods can no longer be applied to complex, voluminous 21st century ESI, the panel will argue that there is still an indispensable role for skilled attorneys in the document review process, along with the use of advanced analytical tools to efficiently identify and organize the background facts and documentary evidence to effectively present the client’s case. They will show that, unlike 19th century lawyers, 21st century lawyers may need to involve their clients, colleagues, subject matter experts, technical experts, the court, and even opposing counsel, to make it work. Finally, the panel will posit that focusing on achieving unattainable “perfection” in document review is misplaced. Instead, the goal should be to appropriately use available tools to increase speed and reduce cost, while implementing a reasonable, verifiable process that produces high-quality results.

Registration for this webinar is $79 per site for The Sedona Conference® Working Group Series members and $99 per site for the general public. To register and obtain the written materials in advance, visit The Sedona Conference® web site at www.thesedonaconference.org.
